ASHLEY ANNA BROWN'S FERN ANIMALS

Ashley and I met at the Bust Magazine Holiday Craftacular in Chelsea last year. She is so sweet. A total dear. Really, she is as sweet as her custom fern animal wedding cake toppers featured above.

I own one of her lions with a little hood that goes on and off the head. I love it. These are top notch creations not to be missed. If you are looking for a special gift for a child, bride, friend, anyone, these will make the person gush with smiles. Extremely well made.
Shop Ashley's latest creations here.

I have a feeling Ashley will be featured on Martha Stewart one of these days ; )

MEGAN AUMAN'S COZY CUFF SAVES THE DAY

Megan Auman, an incredibly talented artist and designer, and dear friend of mine, has invented an item as genius as a french press. Behold the cozy cuff. Not only can you wear it as a bracelet but you can place it around your hot cup or thermos. Paper cup holders watch out! If you can always have it with you imagine how many of those paper cup things we could save over a week!

Made from laser cut 100% wool felt.

I poured hot tea in my SIGG bottle which we all know is going to burn your hand off. The cozy cuff came to the rescue. I was able to use my SIGG bottle on the way to my yoga class without getting scorched. It does not even slide off my bottle.

Teavana in tow.

BROOKLYN BRIDE BUSINESS CARDS

I had the honor of designing these lovely stationery pieces for Vané Broussard of Brooklyn Bride blog. Printed by the kind and talented Spark Stationery, are Vané's new business cards and flat notes. Cards were printed double sided on a double thick white stock. One color on front and two color on back. Notes are one color. Vane's vision was modern, clean, and consistent with her charming blog. Her identity was designed and created by calligrapher Betsey Dunlap.

BOARDING PASS via Prêt à Voyager

What a clever idea by Prêt à Voyager to recap and illustrate the travels of creatives. It is so helpful to learn how others travel. I am seriously obsessed with traveling. In a good way. I love to experience different places and see how people live, eat, and interact with their environment.

Prêt à Voyager asked me to email over some of my recent travel pics and details. See the post here of my latest journeys through Iceland, England, and France.

MY HOME SEEN TODAY ON decor8

A big thank you to Holly, decor8, for featuring my kitchen and dining area on "how much for this room" via decor8.

decor8 recently added this helpful and inspiring feature to her blog. It is so nice to see how everything in someones home adds up, literally. Renovating and redecorating a home can be really overwhelming and frustrating if there are no grounded ideas or theme. And, you can spend all your hard earned cash on what you think is the only solution. With all the design blogs out there now you have a lot of options and advice for everything. Do not buy the first lamp or give in to feeling like repairs will cost too much. There is a way to do it and make it function while looking great. But, take on a little at a time unless you have a group of handy people that have time.

I have kept a great deal of patience with trying to get this new 102 year old home my husband and I moved into last year up to speed. It was a real mess when we got it. Not a leaky roof or poor electrical but a heap of plastic like home repairs that made no sense.
Much of the simple charm was discarded and hidden. I could never figure out why someone would cover great oak wood floors. Then, I pinch myself because I know how time consuming it can be to restore floors, walls (ughh, wallpaper removal), and cabinets, etc. It must be my love of renovations and interior design that has enabled me to strip wallpaper, sand and smooth out the wall with joint compound and then paint the walls. Or, I am obsessed. I did grow up with a talented engineer and carpenter father who can fix anything, and right. He is amazing and carved out my path for design. If it is not broke, do not fix it. If it is broke, fix it right. If you cannot fix it, ask someone who knows what they are doing. Case closed.

When fixing an old home and keeping old parts and adding new ones... take deep breaths as it can be a challenge to fuse things together. Keep it simple.

STILL SLIDING OFF YOUR YOGA MAT? GET A JADE MAT.

After having an asana practice now for over six years and teaching it for three I have slipped on "sticky" mats and various other mats that feel like jelly, jello, slip and slides, and hair. Yes, one felt like it had pieces of course hair to prevent you from slipping. No, no, and no. I have been using a JADE yoga mat ever since I discovered them at Jivamukti Yoga, NYC, four years ago. At the time, called "Harmony" mats. They are made from natural rubber which has incredible cushion, resilience, and grip. Do not fret about the cost. They are worth it. The rubber smell goes away too. And, you actually work in hanumanasana (split) as your heel does not just slide through your sweat to assist you.

"Tapped from rubber trees, natural rubber is a renewable resource and our mats are made in the United States in compliance with U.S. environmental laws and contain no
PVCs - making our mats the first "green" yoga mats", says founder and yogi Dean Jerrehian.

They come in variable thicknesses so whether you want to feel the floor or need more cushion you have options. They are easy to transport.

Beware of bringing them into extreme heat and moisture... Bikram Yoga. I have destroyed one of my mats by getting it moist and overheated.
For every mat sold a tree is planted by Jade.

MUJI AWARDS 03 GOLD WINNER - WHEAT STRAWS

In a world of new "green" product development everyday I am relieved to see someone has decided to think of straw again as a straw. Wheat was used as a straw a very long time ago and Designer, Yuki Iida thankfully resurrected this amazing source when she entered her idea into the Muji Awards Competition with the theme FOUND..

The wheat is completely natural and will totally biodegrade. Outstanding idea. Wish I came up with wheat straws.
"The original meaning of the term "straw" was "wheat straw". Wall art depicting people using straws of wheat to drink from have been discovered from ancient Mesopotamian ruins. Straws of wheat are forms created by nature; they are materials that return to the soil. There's no waste in either the shape itself, or in its actual existence".
