June 3rd, 1976, Happy Birthday and the meaning of it all

Today is my 34th birthday. I feel this day, in an inspiring way today more than ever. What does it mean to ponder your day of birth? To me, it means being extremely nice to yourself and also evaluating some goals and ideas. I ask myself who am I, where am I, and do I like what I have become? I check in. Today, I am very happy about where I am, who I am, and where I am going. I am thankful to be alive but more importantly feel alive. Of course, a celebration is always fun!

I am paying my mother respect on this day even more than Mother's Day as she delivered me and in that delivery I almost did not make it. The cord was around my neck and luckily the doctors were quick to deliver me but my mom went through some serious labor. I can only imagine that day, your day of birth, which seems more fulfilling for me right now to say instead of birthday. Only because it is so important to make good use of this gift of life each and everyday.

So, a shout out to all you Geminis and birthday goers today and a big soulful hug to my mother for her undying love and affection, and of course to my father. It takes two, right? But, dad you will have your day soon, Father's Day is around the corner! lol xxoo

This is a picture of me when I turned five. I have always loved this Polaroid with the colorful gifts and my smirk little smile. And, a very beat up picture of my mother and I when I was about 3. I made quite a few paintings and drawings from this picture so it sadly ended up covered in oil paint and bent, but I still love it. I think I love it more that it is bent and weathered.

INK+WIT mobile

Super fun and made from environmentally friendly materials. The Rainy Day Animal Friends mobile can be hung over a crib, on the wall as it lies flat very easily or in front of a window. It looks lovely anywhere and is not just for children. I have it in my studio and love its playfulness. Made of bamboo and felt in the USA. Assembled by INK+WIT. .

Pull Your Weeds Plant Good Seeds

I love this phrase often mentioned by yogis. It honesty changed my life in the last year.

What you have around you becomes you. What is in your kitchen cabinets, closet, body, and mind can really lift you up or bring you down. I have always loved motivational prints and posters but did not want to create one that was complicated but rather light, minimal and conceptual. This piece is made of thin birch ply and archival inks. It is lovely and fits right into a standard 11x14 frame. The one shown here is from IKEA and under $20 and even comes with a mat. You can also find white frames at Pottery Barn and Target.

This print is now in my home and I love walking by it everyday as it reminds me to keep pulling and keep planting good things. If it does not lift me up its outta here! I listed uplifting words we can all plant everyday in our life at the base of the design which are contained in rounded circles and the words at top that we are pulling are in a triangular pattern hence removing the obstacles, the noise, the chitta vrittis (mind chatter/moneky mind) as we say in yoga thanks to Pantanjali's Yogi Sutras. The doubts, fears, ego, and chaos that can become us if we are not careful to fill ourselves up with compassion, love, and peace. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as me.

INK+WIT Stamp Sets

I am super excited to show you three new box sets of natural rubber stamp sets. Arctic, Outback Safari, and Paris Friends. All sets come in a natural wooden box. We are working on singles that will come in a muslin bag and should be ready by early July.

There is a lot you can do with eon of these stamp sets. I made wrapping paper, tags, and wall art. In fact, Shelly, founder of Albertine Press, liked the owl featured on our stationery show booth wall so much she wanted one. You can take these stamps to a whole new level. And, they make a great gift.

We have found that the cleaning pads work the best to remove the ink and that the sooner you remove the ink the better. It will come off but it comes of easier right after each use.

Each box has a custom twill pull made by INK+WIT to easily remove slide top lid.

Made in the US and packaged by INK+WIT. Let us know if you have any questions at info@inkandwit.coom. We will have more images next week but we wanted to show you the sets without further delay.

"Ali R said... My son asks me this question all the time - he would love this book :) Being in Toronto we have lots and lots of time to anxiously await summer - bare feet, our little frog pool, ice cream, berries, watermelon - and for me, the absolute joy of being able to get my little herd out the door in less than 20mins (sans jackets, hats, mitts, etc.). Oh, and I love being able to see my little girl's arms in her short sleeves.

Recap of NSS 2010

I feel like I have been away for a very long time and sadly could not get to several things including the blog during the last 2 weeks. And, in many ways that is good news... The National Stationery Show was a wild success and so much fun. Thank you for stopping by the booth and if we missed you our apologies and we hope to see or hear from you soon. I thought since I have been away for so long I would dive right in and let you know how it all went from pre show to show to post show. (pics tomorrow)

PRE-SHOW
I started designing and planning back in October and for those of you who have done trade shows you know the time flys and for those who are planning to go, give yourself many months for trial and error. It is impossible to get it all done too so plan on surrendering some ideas. My wedding line was pushed back as was my baby album. As many of you know I am a one woman team and it is very clear I need to hire someone at this point. Up until the show I was working about 70+ hours a week and somehow functioning but I now fully understand I need help. And, that is a good thing because it means I am growing. Where help would have been great is with emails, printer coordination, shipping, ordering, and pack up. Yes, I did 99% of it by myself. Thank goodness I have an amazing father who assembled the booth and is a wiz at engineering. He also was there the first 3 days of set up in New York to assist and trouble shoot. I would have died without him. Thanks dad. I love you!!!!!

SHOW
The show was amazing. INK+WIT will now be in twenty plus new stores throughout the US, and also the UK and New Zealand! We had so much fun meeting everyone who stopped by and could not be happier that you were happy. Happiness was my first priority with the new line. I wanted people to be smile when they walked into the booth... and they did!!!

Our new stamp sets were a huge success which will be on the site tomorrow along with the new tea towels, mobile, and bunting.

Our booth worked out even though it was so small. But, it looked great and I was super psyched to see it come together. Overall, a huge success and I hope to share more great news soon in regards to custom projects with some very special people!

It was so nice to be near Albertine Press, Carta, Inc by Angela Liguori, Chewing the Cud, Fine Day Press, and Enormous Champion. Love you guys and miss you!!!! Wish we had more time to actually hang out. The show goes by fast and NSS if you can hear me make the last day a party so we can all meet each other and hang out. I missed so many people not to mention parties outside the show. The time just flys and here we are back in cyber space. I prefer in person much better. Call me old school.

• where I succeeded:
  • 1. Allowing enough time to roll out a new product line (months of trial and error)
  • 2. Editing the line down and making new work.
  • 3. Going for the gold on my booth (my dad and I worked super hard to create the structure and with Diva's help, founder of Linea Carta, and Zeynep's architectural input, founder of Small Square Design, the booth turned out exactly how I envisioned but it would have been great if it was double the size. 60sq ft is just not enough. It is like a popsicle stand. Next time, bigger booth.
  • 4. PR help (Thanks Jessica of Shiny Squirrel!)
  • 5. Mailers
  • 6. Email blasts
  • 7. Staffing the booth with 3 of the best girls ever that are super sweet and attentive (Thanks Courtney, Beth, and Megan Auman!)

• what needs work
  • 1. As mentioned above, a bigger booth for ample room to take orders, talk, relax, and soak in a lot at once. I ended up with quite a bit of various products this year and really had a small space to showcase. Go for a smaller booth if you have a minimal line and smaller scale objects to display.
  • 2. A few extra days before the show to sleep.
  • 3. Various products need multiple options. (our stamp sets will also be offered as singles now)
  • 4. Skew numbers and product names on the shelves/walls to easily and quickly identify the products. All an all this worked out but I can see where it could help net time.
  • 5. Allow myself more resting time during the show as I could not make it to after parties or events. I was exhausted at the end of the day and ultimately needed an asana practice (yoga practice on the mat) to loosen my hip and back. My right hip hurt much of the show and needed attention. I would have one more person staffed next year so everyone could have more time to walk around and rest.

POST SHOW

I returned Wednesday night to my home and watched 2 hours of Sex and the City with my husband. It was really nice. Right off the bat Thursday was organizing orders and follow up. In addition, doing another inventory count, and reordering (good sign). There is a strange exhaustion but excitement going through me right now and I cannot explain it but I am sure all of you know what I am talking about. It was such a great show and then you go home and your bed eats you alive.

A big thanks to The Shinny Squirrel, design*sponge, Oh So Beautiful Paper, Gus & Ruby, Urbanic, Parcel Post, Brooklyn Bride, The Sweetest Occasion, Paper Crave, Two Brunettes, and Mint for all of your lovely INK+WIT booth pics, blog posts and tweets. A big thanks to all of you who stopped by to say hi and took pics (we would love to see them, please email us at info@inkandwit.com)

... more soon (thanks so much for all of your dear support!)

See you at the National Stationery Show May 16-19

After months and months of preparation and hard work, I leave for the city tomorrow from upstate New York with the INK+WIT booth, literally. I have an amazing father. He is driving down the walls. My best friend and I are driving the rest.

I am looking forward to showing many new products that I dreamed of making for quite some time. I also cannot wait to meet a lot of great people in person after chatting online for so long. And, seeing familiar faces!

I will have a full post on my experience pre-show and post show as I have not had much time this past week to blog about all the prep work (since I was still doing prep work up until this post and actually still have to pack)... it is starting to feel like my wedding... tons of details!

Wishing you a great weekend and hope to see you at the show.
