Icelandic turf houses have been constructed for centuries. Time for us to pay attention. Slowly we are greening rooftops and growing skyscraper gardens. But, when you look at the simplicity of the green roofs here you realize how built into nature they actually are and have to just stop and say ahhh.
I traveled to Iceland in 2009 and the landscape is spectacular, otherworldy and surreal. It takes your breath away and quite quickly restores it and you to your purest form. The people truly live in nature and embrace it. They do not try to conquer it or control it. The landscape is vast, houses minimal, colors vibrant, and people sincere.
Take me now Iceland, into my small simple home with a grass roof built into the open sky and grounded in black volcanic rock.
